Usually, game software developers organize work in offices, in this regard 4ThePlayer is a rare exception. But due to the coronavirus, many have been forced to work remotely. How have companies adapted to this?
Blueprint Gaming, for example, believe that isolation has even brought them closer. And Relax Gaming is trying to encourage the movement and healthy lifestyle of employees through prizes, drawings and tournaments. Thomas Carlson, HR manager of the company, tells how everyday life goes at Relax Gaming in isolation. An interview with him is published on the official website of the developer. Read the translation of part of it below.
What does life look like at Relax right now?
The Relax team still encourages remote work, communication mainly takes place through Slack and video calls. Teams use different channels to banter and share pet photos, so the Relax culture is still alive.
The well-being of our employees is always a top priority for us, and now that we are all working from home, this is even more important. We have presented a long-term project where we teach our teams about different ways to support health and try to inspire them to take care of themselves. One such initiative has taken the form of a mobile app that allows employees to record daily steps, activities and even housework in exchange for random prizes and sweepstakes. This has developed healthy competition among our teams and has grown into a social platform where employees share photos and comments.
But the event everyone is most looking forward to is our internal tournaments where employees play our latest casino, poker and bingo games for the chance to win great prizes and more importantly, the perpetual right to brag about it.
On top of all the fun and games, we keep all parts of the Relax team up to date on what's going on in the company through presentations from our CEO Tommi Maijala, which are recorded and distributed every month via email. Then there is a Q&A session in our chat group to make sure all questions are discussed and everyone continues to feel part of the ongoing changes that are taking place behind the scenes.
Events like this are essential, especially for new team members who probably don't know what life was like at Relax before covid. Since we are not hiring less (but rather), it is very important that newcomers have the opportunity to socialize with other teams and offices, as well as get to know their immediate colleagues.
